In this session we will discuss obstacles to effective communication between justice partners – police, prosecutors, and other stakeholders – and identify strategies and techniques to overcome those barriers.

Jason Samuels

Senior Traffic Safety Resource Prosecutor

Prosecuting Attorneys’ Council of Georgia

Jason is a Senior Traffic Safety Resource Prosecutor for the Prosecuting Attorneys’ Council of Georgia. He provides training and support to prosecutors and peace officers throughout Georgia. He has been a Senior Assistant District Attorney with the DeKalb County DA’s Office, an Assistant DA with the Cobb County DA’s Office, and an Assistant Solicitor-General with the Gwinnett County Solicitor’s Office. He has won convictions from juries in cases ranging from speeding to murder.

 Jason began his law enforcement career in 1990 as a police officer with the Los Angeles Police Department. He served the communities of Watts, Van Nuys, and Hollywood, and is a veteran of the 1992 LA riot. During his time in LA, he apprehended suspects for murder, rape, kidnapping, armed robbery, assault, burglary, child molestation, grand theft auto, weapons and narcotics possession, and DUI.

 He continued his career with the Alpharetta (Georgia) Police Department where he served as a field training officer and patrol sergeant.

 Jason earned his BA in Political Science from Purdue University and his Master of Public Administration and Juris Doctor degrees from the University of Georgia.

 He is a graduate of the Borkenstein Course on Alcohol and Traffic Safety at Indiana University, the Borkenstein Course on the Effects of Drugs on Human Performance, and CMI’s maintenance and calibration courses for both the Intox 9000 and 5000. Jason is a Senior Georgia POST Instructor and completed the SFST Instructor course at IPTM.

 Jason is an Eagle Scout and an Honorably Discharged US Marine.

This course is approved for 1 CLE credit in Pennsylvania; 1.25 in Illinois, North Carolina, Ohio, Tennessee and Texas; 1.3 in Mississippi; 1.5 in Virginia. This course is pending in Kansas. All other attorneys seeking self-study CLE credit should contact their state bar for more information.
