Presenters: Clinton Lacey, President and CEO of the Credible Messenger Mentoring Movement-CM3, and Lisa Ledoux, Chief Assistant Prosecutor, Juvenile Unit, Office of the Hudson County (NJ) Prosecutor.
Summary: This course includes information on what Credible Messengers (CMs) are, how CM programs work, and how CMs can work with prosecutors, including through programs for court-involved youth. This course includes a discussion about a CM program in Hudson County, NJ that is available to court-involved youth. The discussion highlights how the program originated, eligibility requirements for the program, and the components of the program. The course will be beneficial to juvenile court prosecutors who are interested in building collaborations to create, support and /or implement CM programs in their respective jurisdictions, including for court-involved youth.
Learning Objectives:
(1) Learn what Credible Messengers (CMs) are.
(2) Learn about how CMs can be part of a jurisdiction's delinquency prevention and intervention strategy.
(3) Learn how prosecutors can collaborate with CM programs and other stakeholders to create, build, and implement CM programs for court-involved youth.

Credible Messenger Mentoring Movement
Clinton Lacey is the CEO and president of the Credible Messenger Mentoring Movement (CM3), which focuses on supporting Credible Messenger Mentors who share similar life experiences with current justice-involved young people and are poised to have a transformative impact on an individual, family, community, and systemic level. Lacey previously served as Director of the District of Columbia Department of Youth Rehabilitation Services (DYRS) and Deputy Commissioner of the New York City Probation Department. Other positions held by Lacey over his 30-year career include project manager with the W. Haywood Burns Institute, director of the Youth Justice Program at Vera Institute of Justice, and associate executive director of Friends of Island Academy, which serves 16- to 24-year-olds at Rikers Island, New York City.
